Rethink the Rates

Prosper UK is launching Rethink the Rates, our campaign to reform the business-rates system and make it fairer for high-street businesses, employers and local communities.

Businesses in England face revised bills following a new revaluation and changes to reliefs and multipliers.

The Government has recognised that exposed sectors need support. But temporary discounts and transitional schemes do not fix the deeper problem.

Businesses that need physical premises are still taxed heavily before they make a sale or a profit.

Small retail, hospitality and leisure firms face an average 52% increase in bills over three years.

That is not a fair or sustainable system.

Britain needs a simpler, more predictable settlement that supports premises-based businesses, investment, jobs and local communities.
